Known for its iconic silhouettes and high-tech fabrications, French label Eres has been the name to know in swimwear for more than 40 years. It’s beloved Peau Douce—a soft fabric designed to hide imperfections and provide support without boning—continues to be at the forefront of the brand’s offerings, updated each season with new color ways and details. To celebrate the launch at BG, we sat down with Artistic Director Marie-Paule Minchelli to talk about the brand’s evolution, her favorite of-the-moment pieces, and more. Read the full Q&A below and shop Eres now in store on 6.
Bergdorf Goodman: What do you think makes Eres stand out in swimwear?
Marie-Paul Minchelli: Eres wishes to highlight the architecture of the body by adapting the lines and models to all women’s morphologies, whether for sophisticated pieces or everyday items. Eres stands out with its exclusive materials and colors developed within the House. The products combine unique know-how with technical features that allow freedom of movement.
BG: How has the brand evolved since its beginnings and where do you hope to see it in the future?
MPM: Over the years, Eres has been able to remain the reference brand of swim by adapting to trends while maintaining its DNA identity.
The brand has developed thanks to the modernity of its technicality and its perpetual innovation. For the years to come, Eres aspires to remain a reference in luxury both in swim and lingerie and wishes to develop its new activewear line to offer a complete wardrobe for today’s woman.
BG: Can you tell us about the process of creating new pieces and what was the inspiration for the current collection?
MPM: I get a lot of inspiration from the things around me, from the spirit of the times, from an exhibition, a book or even from a vacation spent at the beach, while keeping in mind the desires of tomorrow’s women.
BG: What are your three favorite pieces available at BG at the moment?
MPM: First of all, the Eglantine dress, in plumetis, an elegant and airy dress. It can be combined with lingerie pieces as well as with a swimsuit and brings a vaporous and bohemian silhouette that is ideal for summer!
Second would be the one-piece Sur-Mesure, inspired by the iconic Cassiopée model in Peau Douce (the house’s signature material) and crafted with a jacquard of braided herringbone to create a structured line in a tuxedo spirit.
Finally, I really appreciate the bra Breloque to mix with the Parure panty. This two-piece swimsuit simply adorns a woman’s body thanks to its jewelry spirit. It is 100% Peau Douce, the fabric of Eres’ identity. The links bring a refined and pop line for a silhouette that is both sophisticated and modern.
BG: What is your favorite Bergdorf Goodman memory?
MPM: My favorite BG memory would be the fascinating windows rich in creativity. After a day of shopping, I enjoy relaxing in the BG Restaurant, a sophisticated place located on the seventh floor with an impressive view of Central Park.
